Revolutionary War
Graves
Capt Hendrick Aupaumut
The grave site in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, where
Capt Hendrick Aupaumut was buried had many wood markers, which long since have
decayed and disappeared. Some time in the past, the graves were moved to
different locations, and there is information concerning the Captain.
However, the original grave site has been marked, and markers have been placed
at another location in the city. Revolutionary War Patriot Jacob Konkapot
also was buried at this site.
Thanks to Jim Waid, president of the Capt
Hendrick Aupaumut Chapter SAR, photos of the markers have been provided, along
with an article about the Captain written by Dr. H. B. Tanner and reprinted in
1948. (Click on the small photos for full page view and click on your

Revolutionary War Veterans Hendrick Aupaumut and Jacob Konkapot was dedicated
at a ceremony on May 10, 1977.
Also
during Bicentennial celebrations, a marker was placed at the corner of Hendrick
and Reaume Avenues in Kaukauna in recognition of Capt Aupaumut.
This
marker was presented by the United Paperworkers International Union Local 147.
Many
years ago, in 1928, the Appleton Chapter of the Daughters of the American
Revolution placed this marker in Kaukauna in memory of Capt Aupaumut. The DAR marker is located at the intersection of Reaume
St & Hendricks Ave in the City of Kaukauna, Wis. To get there you go west from State HWY 55 on 7th Street to Hendricks Av. Turn right (north) and travel 2 block to the site.
As far as can be determined, the actual grave was located behind the house that is now at the intersection of Thelen and 13th St.
